Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty

Restore clarity. Refine Expression.

What is an Upper Blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess upper eyelid skin and, when necessary, conservatively refines underlying fat to reduce heaviness.

Hooding often results from a combination of skin laxity, mild fat prominence, and brow position. The incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease so the scar heals discreetly, and only the tissue needed to restore eyelid definition is addressed.

The goal is a more rested appearance through structural support, with expression preserved.

Frequently asked questions

Candidates typically present with excess upper eyelid skin, hooding, or a sense of heaviness that creates a tired appearance. In some cases, this excess skin can also impact the visual field. Candidacy is determined by evaluating the relationship between the eyelid and brow, as both structures often contribute.
Incisions are placed within the natural eyelid crease for concealment. With precise technique and appropriate healing, scars are typically very difficult to detect. Scar quality is influenced by both surgical execution and individual biology.
Most patients experience swelling and bruising for approximately 7 to 10 days. You will generally look presentable within 1 to 2 weeks, with continued refinement as residual swelling resolves over time.
The goal is restoration, not alteration. Excess skin is removed to reestablish a more open, rested appearance while preserving the natural shape and identity of the eyes.
If excess eyelid skin is limiting vision, surgery can improve the visual field. Temporary swelling may cause mild visual changes early in recovery, but this resolves as healing progresses.
All surgery carries risk, although complications are uncommon in experienced hands. Potential risks include bleeding, infection, delayed healing, scarring, and temporary asymmetry. These are minimized through careful planning, precise technique, and structured postoperative care.
